A huge part of California’s Highway 1, which hugs most of the state’s Pacific coastline, fell into the sea this week after a winter storm, a massive road also known as State Route 1 (SR 1), the California highway runs along the Pacific coastline of the western state. It’s 656 miles long, making it California’s longest route, hence the California Department of Transportation’s (Caltrans) Fifth District posted a tweet informing drivers that the highway has been closed due to a “partial washout.”

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) entered the Black Sea on a routine patrol, Jan. 28, joining USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) and the Henry J. Kaiser-class underway replenishment oiler, USNS Laramie (T-AO-203) in the Black Sea to maintain maritime security alongside other NATO Allies and partners, all along while conducting multidomain operations with a U.S. Navy P-8A aircraft from Patrol Squadron VP-46 and NATO Air Command aircraft E-3A Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS).
The ships’ combined operations further strengthen interoperability and demonstrate resolve to Black Sea peace and security.
