ICE deportation officers arrested 20 criminal aliens and immigration violators during a five-day enforcement surge focused on immigration fugitives with a final removal order and a criminal conviction(s) or a criminal charge, with the weeklong operation conducted throughout San Diego county by Enforcement and Removal Operations in San Diego.
Of those arrested during this operation, 85 percent had prior criminal convictions and/or prior criminal charges. Convictions for those arrested included drugs, weapons offenses, hit-and-run, driving under the influence, theft, domestic violence, evading law enforcement and fraud criminal offenses.

A Colombian fentanyl trafficker, identified as Daniel Vivas Ceron, 38, of Colombia, who was scheduled to go to trial on Oct. 1, 2019, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and money laundering charges as the leader and organizer of an international continuing criminal enterprise while incarcerated in Quebec, Canada. The enterprise involved distributing fentanyl and other similar substances from Canada and China into the United States where some of those drugs resulted in 15 overdoses including 11, which caused serious bodily injuries, and four, which resulted in fatal overdoses.
He pleaded guilty to running a continuing criminal enterprise, conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and controlled substance analogues resulting in serious bodily injury and death and money laundering, and faces a statutory maximum sentence of life in prison.
“From a Canadian jail cell, Daniel Vivas Ceron directed a deadly drug ring that fueled the opioid epidemic and took the lives of four Americans,” said Assistant Attorney General Benczkowski.
“Today’s guilty plea brings some measure of justice for the victims and families that fell prey to Vivas Ceron’s dangerous organization and its tragic track record of spreading addiction and abuse.”

The Trump administration would not push for the inclusion of the question in the decennial census, after fighting for weeks with Democrats over whether to include a citizenship question, as President Trump decided to drop the effort, and use instead available federal agencies data to gather the necessary statistical information.
“These delays would have prevented us from completing the census on time,” Trump said. “It’s deeply regrettable,” signing an executive order to federal agencies to share information with the U.S. Department of Commerce to collect citizenship-related information.
“I’m hereby ordering every department and agency in the federal government to provide the Department of Commerce with all requested records regarding the number of citizens and non-citizens in our country,” Trump said.
The census, being the largest and most detailed demographic survey in the country, holds enormous political implications, as electoral maps and the allocation of seats in the House of Representatives will be adjusted to reflect the latest demographic statistics.
The Democrats have rebuked the inclusion of the question, arguing that such action would discourage undocumented immigrants from taking part in the census, thus undermining the credibility of its result.
The Democratic Party traditionally enjoys stronger support in states with larger immigrant communities, such as California and New York.
