1…………> Confirm Kavanaugh: WJ

Wall Street Journal Editorial Board: Confirm Brett Kavanaugh

“Judge Kavanaugh was right to call the confirmation process a ‘disgrace’ in his passionate self-defense,” The Wall Street Journal editorial board writes. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s “allegation should have been vetted privately, in confidence, as she said she would have preferred. Instead of ranking Democrat Dianne Feinstein held it for six weeks, and it was leaked—perhaps to cause precisely such a hearing circus.”

2…………> Trump’s ICE Broom: MA

ICE officers arrested 40 criminal aliens and immigration violators throughout the New England region during a 3-day enforcement action from Sept. 20-22.

Some of the cities and towns that ERO deportation officers made arrests in during the operation, were: Bridgeport, Bristol, Danbury, Hartford, and Waterbury, Connecticut; in Boston, Brighton, Chelsea, Lowell, Lynn, Malden, Mattapan, Woburn, Revere, and Somerville, and Quincy, Massachusetts; in Brentwood, Manchester, Nashua, and Northwood, New Hampshire; and in East Providence and Providence, Rhode Island.

Foreign nationals from the following countries were arrested during the operation: Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Portugal, Ireland, Brazil, Jamaica, Cuba, Ecuador, among others. Most of the aliens targeted by ERO deportation officers during this operation had prior criminal histories that included convictions for crimes such as: assault, burglary, drug trafficking, possession of narcotics, discharge of a firearm, domestic violence, sexual exploitation of minor ,driving under the influence, fraud, illegal entry, hit and run, larceny, weapons possession, and sex offenses, among other charges.

“This operation has removed many dangerous individuals from the community and will help contribute to the safety and security throughout the entire region,” said Todd M. Lyons, acting field office director, ERO Boston. “Part of the ICE/ERO mission is to make our communities safer places to live in by removing criminals; operations like this do exactly that. I applaud the hard work and sheer determination of the dedicated professionals of ICE ERO Boston who make these vital operations possible.”

Eight of those arrested in this operation illegally re-entered the United States after having been previously deported, which is a felony. Depending on an alien’s criminality, an alien who re-enters the United States after having been previously deported commits a crime punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison, if convicted. Four of those arrested have been presented for federal prosecution for re-entry after deportation so far.

3…………> Trump’s ICE Broom: LA

A man with a conviction for attempted murder and a woman who has seven convictions for driving under the influence are among the 150 criminal aliens and immigration violators arrested by ICE officers this week. Approximately 40 percent of those aliens apprehended had previously been released by local law enforcement agencies despite ICE placing a detainer, which asks an arresting agency to notify immigration officers before an alien’s release from custody. Of those arrested in Los Angeles and surrounding areas from Sunday through Tuesday, approximately 90 percent had criminal convictions.

“The state laws preventing ICE from working in the jails is significantly impacting public safety by letting serious repeat offenders back out onto our streets,” said Thomas Giles, Acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Los Angeles.

“Our presence would be focused in the jails, rather than in the streets, and safer for all involved, if ICE could again coordinate transfers of criminal aliens with local jails.”

The operation targeted public safety threats, such as convicted criminal aliens and individuals who have violated the immigration laws of the United States – including those who re-entered the country after being deported and immigration fugitives ordered deported by federal immigration judges. Among those arrested during the operation are: A 36-year old citizen of Mexico apprehended in Huntington Beach, Calif. on Sept. 24, who had been arrested and released by local law enforcement agencies three times this year despite ICE having a detainer lodged. His convictions include attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, failure to register as a sex offender, driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance.

4…………> Mini Tsunami: Indonesia

A tsunami waves of up to six feet tall has hit a small city on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, collapsing buildings and washing a vessel onto land, after a magnitude-7.5 quake struck offshore, but there has been no word on casualties so far.

Authorities received information that Palu had been hit amid a rapid series of aftershocks,

“The 3 to 6 feet tsunami has receded, it ended,” according to a government official.

“The situation is chaotic; people are running on the streets and buildings collapsed. There is a ship washed ashore,” she added. Videos circulating on social media show a powerful wave hitting the provincial capital, Palu, with people screaming and running in fear.

5…………> Kavanaugh Nomination: The Struggle

At a news conference with the president of Chile, President Trump says he’s going to “let the Senate handle” Kavanaugh.

“They’ll make their decision, and they’ve been doing a good job,” he says. When asked about Ford, Trump says he thought her testimony “was very compelling.”

“I thought that Brett’s testimony, likewise, was something that I haven’t seen before, it was incredible, it was an incredible moment I think in the history of our country.”

He reminds reporters that he isn’t up to speed with all the details given his meeting with Chile’s president, but that he wants “it to work out well for the country.”

As for Senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, two possible Republican swing votes? Trump has no message for them. “They have to do what they think is right,” he says. The president ended the Kavanaugh questions by saying he’s going to rely on what the senators want to do. “I’ll be reliant on what Senator Grassley and the group decide to do.”

1…………> Dark Web: US Secrets

Top Secret documentation related to the maintenance and operation of US MQ-9 Reaper military drones has recently been offered to the highest bidder, sold by a dark web hacker, after computer of “a captain at 432d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Reaper AMU OIC, stationed at the Creech AFB in Nevada” was compromised and a trove of documents  stolen, including Reaper maintenance course books and the list of airmen assigned to Reaper AMU.

“While such course books are not classified materials on their own, in unfriendly hands, they could provide an adversary the ability to assess technical capabilities and weaknesses in one of the most technologically advanced aircraft,” the authorities said.

1…………> Enough Lies Wolffy: Wikileaks

The profitability and sales of Michael Wolff’s scathing book about United States President Donald Trump may have gotten a flat tire after WikiLeaks posted a link to a free online copy.

A delight to brainless “Trump Haters” who could not wait to drive another poison needle in their “Trump Doll”, trashy and clearly hostile “Fire and Fury” has not surprisingly become an instant best-seller, with hard copies sold out in many stores within an hour.

Mr Trump has begun legal action against the author, and now Wikileaks has posted a link on Twitter to a Google Drive document that appears to contain the entire manuscript, although it is unclear whether it is the final version that went to publication.

Many buyers are still unimpressed by the book.

“Not worth wasting your time reading this nonsense. Instead should of bought a box of chocolates,” wrote one.

“I found the writing difficult. There are too many grammatical errors and run-on sentences. Have your dictionary ready. He likes to show how smart he is by using pretentious words. I hoped this would be a fun read but after chapter one, I returned it for a refund,” said another.

2…………> An Angry Volcano: PNG

Following a warning call from authorities in Papua New Guinea 700 people have evacuated since the Kadovar Island volcano became active, fearing that a strong eruption could trigger a tsunami, even though it has not erupted for around 300 years.

“The volcano was blowing out ashes, very thick ashes … It started on Friday around 11 o’clock. The volcano smoke was very thick, and ashes were thrown out from the volcano. There was no actual lava but only thick ashes and smoke. If there wasn’t any initiative by boat, there would have been a very serious disaster,” local man said.

“They were also using small canoes, paddling across to Blup Blup. There was a banana boat but no engine.”

3…………> China’s Amphibian AG600

China’s first home-grown large amphibious aircraft AG600 makes a smooth landing after its maiden flight in Zhuhai, south China’s Guangdong Province, Dec. 24, 2017. AG600, code named “Kunlong”, completed its maiden flight on Sunday. Designed to be the world’s largest amphibious aircraft, the AG600 will be mainly used for maritime rescue, fighting forest fires and marine monitoring. The AG600 is the third member of China’s “large aircraft family” following the large freighter Y-20 and large passenger aircraft C919, which made maiden flights in 2013 and 2017. (Xinhua/Liu Dawei)

4…………> Mighty Yuan: Get Ready

China’s foreign exchange reserves are in a good position to maintain stability in 2018, after the central bank announced the 11th consecutive monthly increase in Forex reserves, expanding to 3.14 trillion dollars in December, the highest since September 2016.
The central parity rate of the Chinese currency strengthened 83 basis points to 6.4832 against the U.S. dollar Monday, putting the yuan in its strongest position since May 2016.

“It was about better economic fundamentals, recovering exports and, more importantly, reduced pressure on capital outflows due to a turnabout in expectations for the yuan,” Shenwan Hongyuan Securities analysts Li Huiyong and Qiu Difan wrote in a research note.

China’s GDP expanded an annualized 6.9 percent in the first three quarters of 2017. Q3 was the ninth straight quarter of growth over 6.7 percent.

5…………> Drone Attacks Halted: Syria

In a development that should severely alarm US security authorities,  militants in Syria launched a massive attack against Russian military facilities, including the Tartus Naval base and Hmeimin airbase, with the use of unmanned GPS fitted aerial vehicles loaded with explosives from a distance of about 65 miles.

The Russian military has taken control of six drones that were sent by militants, another seven were shot down by the Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun system, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
