As wild weather continues to hit NSW today and thousands of people flee their homes amid widespread flooding, the state’s Emergency Services Minister David Elliott said the ADF is being called in to help.  

He told Sky News specialist personnel are expected to arrive in next 24 hours as there are fears for communities on the Mid-North Coast, the Hawkesbury valley and western NSW.

The heart of a deceased rare Blainville’s beaked whale has been buried on a New South Wales Mid North Coast beach as part of an Aboriginal cultural ceremony, after it was washed up at Park Beach in Coffs Harbor, and Dolphin Marine Rescue and the local Aboriginal Land Council work together when marine animals are beached.

The whale’s carcass washed up on Park Beach at Coffs Harbour, the seventh beaked whale to wash up on NSW shores in a year, and the partnership requires traditional owners of the land to participate in animal rescues and offer cultural guidance:

“The Gumbaynggirr people have totem systems and some of them are attached to marine animals,” Coffs Aboriginal Land Council CEO Nathan Brennan said.

The 21-year-old suspect in the Atlanta area massage parlor shootings admitted to having a “sexual addiction” and saw the his targets as a “temptation that he wanted to eliminate,” which resulted in eight people murdered, including six women of Asian origin, as US federal and local investigators have yet to find concrete evidence that would be sufficient to establish a federal hate crime case against him. The officials told the outlet that the first step in determining a potential hate crime is for the local US Attorney to direct the FBI’s Atlanta office to open a preliminary investigation into the matter, and the investigation is currently being led by state and local law enforcement officers, with the FBI assisting with manpower and evidence analysis.

OTTAWA, March 21 (Xinhua) — Canada is seeing more cases from COVID-19 variants, Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam said in a statement:

“As of March 18, a total of 4,499 variants of concern have been reported across Canada, including 4,169 B.1.1.7 variants, 241 B.1.351 variants and 89 P.1 variants,” said the Public Health Agency of Canada on Sunday.

“In parts of Canada, variants of concern represent an increasingly high proportion of cases and are being associated with a greater number of outbreaks,” Tam said.

COVID-19 variants of concern are taking a particularly strong hold in Western Canada, with Regina city seeing nearly all of its cases from the variants, prompting local health officials to urge caution and warn that lockdowns may return, since country’s most populous province of Ontario, with a population of 14 million, announced that it is in the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic because of increasing COVID-19 variant cases.

Canada’s capital city of Ottawa moved to the red zone on Friday as the spread of COVID-19 is getting out of control. Red brings with it some of the strictest restrictions detailed on the province’s pandemic scale, second only to grey lockdown.

However, nationally, COVID-19 activity has leveled off at a high level since mid-February and average daily case counts are now on the rise.

As of Sunday afternoon, Canada reported 2,716 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the cumulative total to 933,230, including 22,673 deaths, according to CTV.
