2…………> An Attack On Cavanaugh: Failing NY Times

In a desperate attempt to derails the confirmation of Judge Cavanaugh to the US Supreme Court, Democrats have moved from credit cards and Nationals tickets to his testimony about the extent of his involvement in the early-2000s nomination of Judge Charles Pickering to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Unfortunately for the Senate Democrats questioning Kavanaugh about his knowledge of a specific event in the Pickering fight during Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing for the D.C. Circuit, he said, “This was not one of the judicial nominees that I was primarily handling.”

Satellite images analyzed by intelligence professionals show that camps have been growing, with up to one million people, or about 7% of the Muslim population in China’s Xinjiang region now been incarcerated in an expanding network of “political re-education” camps.

1…………> Ignored Warnings: World-Wide Fires

Firefighters in Sweden have faced their worst bushfire season since records began more than 260 years ago, recording 18 of its warmest 19 summers in the past 25 years.

At the same time, on the other side of the world, the Mendocino fire is the largest in Californian history at 148,000 hectares as  Australians were brought in to help fight fires this year that burned more than 24,000 hectares of land.

For Stockholm’s chief fire officer Peter Arnevall, July 15 heralded a new breed of the firestorm he had not experienced before, with blazes above the Arctic Circle.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” he said.

“It was so many fires at the same time, and they were so large, it gave us a sense of hopelessness because we didn’t have enough resources within Sweden to handle it.” They were understaffed and underprepared to face what confronted them.

“We don’t have the firefighting planes; we don’t have the helicopters because we’re not used to these types of fires,” Mr. Arnevall said.

“We need to have more resources; we need to think a bit differently.”

2…………> Patriots Rally: Seattle

White supremacist marchers members of the ‘Patriot Prayer’ group gathered by the Seattle’s city hall wearing handguns, carrying rifles and donning body armor, padded gloves, ear protection and equipped alongside other tactical military gear.

Founded by white nationalist Joey Gibson, the Patriot Prayer group co-hosted the march alongside, a Washington state group calling themselves the Three Percenters, members of which advocate for the right to carry weapons and firearms in every walk of life. As a candidate, Gibson drew about 2% of the vote in a recent Washington US Senate primary.

The white supremacist asserted that marchers were demonstrating against the “violence on the far left,” as hundreds of counter-protesters converged across the street from where the rally took place.

A heavy police presence, many on bicycles, kept the two sides apart.

3…………> Patriots vs. Antifa: Stewart vs. Kaine

The Republican nominee for the US Senate in Virginia Corey Stewart, a man with alleged ties to white supremacists,  tweeted a photo of the Democratic opponent and current Virginia Senator Tim Kaine shaking hands with Joseph Stalin, the former General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

“The image of the USSR leader appears to have been lifted from a historic photograph depicting a meeting between Stalin, former UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and former US President Harry Truman on July 17, 1945”

The conservative Republican’s tweet appears to be an effort to link Kaine to ‘Antifa’ for anti-fascist groups who routinely clash with the white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups supported by Stewart. It appears that Stewart’s inflammatory rhetoric will not end anytime soon.

“We’re still digging through Tim Kaine’s old albums — just wait until you see the photo of him playing golf with Karl Marx!” Stewart said.

1…………> Back To Pravda: Liberal Censorship

Social media platforms are “totally discriminating” against users with right-wing views, and mainstream “Fake News” outlets like CNN and MSNBC are”sick,” President Trump commented after several top social media platforms including Facebook and Spotify curbed or banned accounts of far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

….Too many voices are being destroyed, some good & some bad, and that cannot be allowed to happen. Who is making the choices, because I can already tell you that too many mistakes are being made? Let everybody participate, good & bad, and we will all just have to figure it out!

…..Censorship is a very dangerous thing & absolutely impossible to police. If you are weeding out Fake News, there is nothing so Fake as CNN & MSNBC, & yet I do not ask that their sick behavior is removed. I get used to it and watch with a grain of salt, or don’t watch at all..

Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices. Speaking loudly and clearly for the Trump Administration, we won’t let that happen. They are closing down the opinions of many people on the RIGHT, while at the same time doing nothing to others…….

2…………> Solitary Island: Water, Sky & You

The Ross family of lighthouse keepers on South Solitary Island, about 10 miles off the coast of Coffs Harbour spent the early 1970s on the island before the lighthouse was automated and the isle abandoned in 1975.

“It was fascinating, but we didn’t appreciate it for what it was until we grew up and met other people who had more boring lives,” Mr. Ross said.

“We just got on with it and did what kids do — we made billy-carts. There were no Playstations or anything like that around, so we had to make our entertainment.”

A unique childhood South Solitary Island is just 23 acres in size, a rocky isle cut in two by a significant passage of water around 30 feet wide.

Mr. Ross admits growing up on the island gave him respect for safety.

“I think we learned a lot about being responsible for yourself because we used to play around some pretty dangerous rock ledges and things like that. So if we messed that up we’d be seriously hurt,” he said.

“We had to make sure we were careful in what we were doing, and I think we brought that into adulthood.” The Ross family was one of three on the island. The lighthouse needed a keeper 24 hours a day, so the shifts were split between three men.

3…………> EU Bailout: Finally Over

The 20th of  August, 2018 marks the formal end of the bailout of Greece for receiving emergency loans in the wake of Europe’s financial crisis, and now the Greek government will have to finance its spending through taxes or by borrowing in the financial markets, though it will be decades before it is all repaid. Five other countries received bailout loans – Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Cyprus – and at the most intense points of the crisis there were genuine doubts about whether the eurozone would survive, or at the very least whether some countries would drop out.

5…………> Mexico Meth Bust: A Record

An anonymous tip to the Mexican marines led to the discovery of an underground drug lab in the mountains on the northwest coast near the town of Alcyonium where 50 tons of methamphetamine were destroyed on the site of the production facility.

The remote area of the mountains is about 12 miles outside the state capital of Sinaloa state, the hunting grounds of infamous cartel boss Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman who led his criminal enterprise until his arrest in 2016.

Since his declaration of war against the cartels in 2006, there have been 127,000 crime-related murders and thousands of disappearances since 2006. Mexico recorded more homicides in 2017 than in any other year in its modern history.

“The failed crime and violence strategy will change,” President-elect Lopez Obrador said when he won the elections in July.

“We will address the causes of crime and violence.”
